Twelfth Night – William Shakespeare
Discover Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, one of his most entertaining comedies, filled with romance, disguise, mistaken identities and witty misunderstandings.
After surviving a shipwreck, Viola finds herself separated from her twin brother Sebastian in the unfamiliar land of Illyria. Believing her brother to be dead, she disguises herself as a young man named Cesario and enters the service of Duke Orsino.
Orsino is in love with Olivia and sends Cesario to court her on his behalf. But Olivia falls in love with Cesario, unaware that Cesario is actually Viola — while Viola herself has fallen in love with Orsino.
As hidden identities, unreturned affection and comic misunderstandings become increasingly complicated, another plot develops around the self-important Malvolio, whose ambitions make him the target of an elaborate practical joke.
Through romance, humour and theatrical disguise, Shakespeare explores love, identity, desire and the difference between appearance and reality. Twelfth Night remains one of his most popular comedies and one of the great works of English drama.
This English paperback edition is ideal for students, theatre lovers and readers of Shakespeare, classic drama and romantic comedy.
